Dear 2nd Grade Families,

PWCS has closed until April 14th so that buildings and buses can be disinfected well. Vaughan was pleased to provide all 2nd grade students that came to school on Friday with books, Kindles, and reading logs to enrich their learning over this time period.

Up until this point, my class has always received their updates through ClassDojo, or email. Since we do have several students in my Language Arts class and Homeroom that have yet to access ClassDojo, I wanted to make sure that all of our families could see updates here as well. See Spanish translation below.

ADVERTISEMENTS

Dear Second Grade Families, PWCS has closed until April 14 so buildings and buses can be sanitized well. Vaughan is pleased to provide all second grade students who came to school on Friday with books, Kindles, and reading records to enrich their learning during this time period.

Until now, my class has always received their updates via ClassDojo or email. Since we have several students in my Language Arts class and in the classroom who do not yet have access to ClassDojo, I wanted to make sure that all of our families can also see the updates here.

*** Please note additional information below to help extend your child's learning during this time away. Please see the Helpful Links to the left and March Instructional Calendar to the right.

Currently in Social Studies, students are learning about geography and mapping skills. In language arts, students are learning about the main idea in nonfiction. In Science, students are learning about changes in matter, or solids, liquids, and gases. In math, students are learning about graphics. Students can continue practicing the main idea and details after reading nonfiction books that came home on March 13. Additionally, students can use the following strategies for fiction or nonfiction books. They can make connections, make predictions, ask and answer questions about the text, summarize what they read to improve their reading.

In math, students can continue to add and subtract two-digit numbers, counting money and coins to $ 1.25. Students can also practice story problems, round to the nearest ten, and compare 3-digit numbers.

In social studies, students have been learning about famous Americans and the contributions they have made to our country and to our lives today. Students can continue to research famous American using Vaughan online.

In science. Students have been working on 3 states of matter (solids, liquids, and gases) and physical changes in matter. For example, adding heat to ice will cause it to melt and turn into a liquid. Add heat to the water, change the liquid to gas. Adding cold or freezing changes the liquid to solid, and adding cold changes a gas to liquid (condensation).
